Even so, this is an insane amount of progress for an emulator that is less than a year old. When AMD introduced FidelityFX Super Resolution, it was touted as an open source alternative to black-box scaling techniques like NVIDIA DLSS. In the screenshots, we see FSR better reproduce high frequency detail in the Metroid Dread comparison, despite running at a lower nominal resolution. Surprisingly, the initial screenshots shared by the Yuzu dev team indicate that FSR scaling seems to deliver better image quality than the old resolution upscaler with bilinear filtering enabled. FSR is being leveraged here to offer significantly better performance when upscaling Nintendo Switch games to 4K and beyond, without compromising too much on image quality. Alongside a significantly more effective approach to resolution scaling, Yuzu also now features AMD's FidelityFX Super Resolution upscaling solution.
